Fatigue Analysis

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hello,

I have a somewhat general question in the sense that I have not started anything concrete yet. I want to run a fatigue analysis on a valve I am modeling. I am unsure however, of how to go about doing this in an FEA environment such as COMSOL.

I feel as though, this may be very difficult to achieve in COMSOL. My initial thoughts were to just cycle the applied load at a given frequency over a transient period of time and have the solver use each iterative solution as the initial condition for the following solution. My model shows a maximum stress of about 1/10th its yield strength, leading me to believe that even an instantaneous release of boundary load will just cause the model to return to its initial state before any load ever happened. In this case, no fatigue would be noticeable rendering the study useless...

Any quick ideas someone would like to share? or maybe some links to literature on the topic?

Thank you for your time,
Daniel
