Charge density extraction and model coupling

Hi everyone,

I am modeling charge distribution in a model that looks like a plate capacitor, where one plate is small and very thin, and the other plate is very large. I do this by modeling the top plate as a work plane, and the bottom plate as large enough so it's effect converges to a certain value.

Now I extract the charge distribution by taking the electric field just below and just above the plate, and thus calculating the dielectric displacement en thus the charge distribution.

Question 1: Is this the best way to handle this situation or does COMSOL have more advanced features that can deal with this?

Secondly I calculate these charge distributions in MATLAB, after exporting the parametrized electric field magnitude, I would like to do this within COMSOL so I can feed the charge distribution in to additional physics calculation.

Question 2: Can I take parametrized surfaces within the solver so I can do calculations there and feed this in to other modules during the calculation?

I hope my problem is clear to you. Thanks in advance,

Louis

So, I made some workplanes just above and below the capacitor plate. But I cannot get too close because these workplanes influence my meshing, and getting too close to the plate causes the amount of elements to increase drastically. Any acceptable distance for meshing causes the result to be too far off.

Pherhaps I need to buy livelink to interface with matlab?
