residual stresses of thermal spray coating process

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi,

I'm trying to simulate a thermal spray coating process, with COMSOL Multyphycis v4.0a.

My model is a multiple-layer Fe3Al / Al2O3 gradient coating on carbon steel substrate. I use a 2D axisymmetric geometry.

3 steps are needed to simulate the deposition of each layer :
- pre-heating of the substrate (or pre-deposited layer) (h=300 W/m².K and T=3000K)
- deposition of the coating layer
- cooling-down

The coating is composed of 5 layers.

I use 6 physics "Heat Transfer" for the thermal analysis. I would like to know how to use the final temperature of layer N as initial temperature of layer N + 1 .

Thanks for your help!

Alexis

I'm not sure to have been clear.

I want to use final temperature of "Heat Transfer" N as initial temperature of "Heat Transfer" N+1.

Alexis

I have found a way to solve my problem.

The 10 steps of my process (pre-heating1, layer1,......, pre-heating5, layer 5) are solved by a different solver.

Each solver has as initial values the solution of the solver before. I have updated the geometry as one goes along.

It's working, but I would like to know if there are more simple ways to solve my model.

Hi,

Now I am doing exactly the same same work as you have done by COMSOL, I would like to konw if you have found the better and easy way to solve this multilayered coating by using 'birth and death unit' in COMSOL?

Thank you
