I have my computer with Ubuntu 10.04 64bit and install comsol 4.2. during installation does not give me any errors, but when I try to open I can not. I have tried by command line and does not open, no links were created.
I have installed "comsol 3.5a" and works perfectly.
Thanks in advance.

The log in ~/.comsol/v41/configuration/comsol/ does report an several errors though, the most common being that the file /usr/local/comsol41/lib/glnxa64/gcc/libgcc_s.so is too short. I checked the file and the error is probably correct. The file size was 0 bytes. I was able to find this file on the CD and manually copy it.
I ran ./comsol again but still nothing. I checked the logs again and the libgcc_s.so error was gone, but now /usr/local/comsol41/lib/glnxa64/libflfftw3.so.3 is too short. I checked the /usr/local/comsol41/lib/glnxa64/ directory and several other files are 0 bytes:
libflfftw3.so
libflfftw3.so.3
libifcoremt.so
libifport.so
libintlc.so
I was not able to find these files on the CD and reinstalling does not fix the problem. So far calling tech support has not helped. Anyone else have issues with these Comsol files?

There must be something wrong with your installation or perhaps your dvd drive.

I do not think it's a problem with the installation CD, because the same CD with Windows 7 install on another pc and I have no problem.
if anyone can help please

Check your files in ../comsol42/lib/ or check the logs in ~/.comsol/v42/configuration/comsol/ for errors related to missing/corrupted files. I had to manually extract the corrupted files from the archives directory on the CD to fix this problem since they would not install normally.

Hi !
Have struggeled a bit with this. I'm now running 4.2 on Ubuntu 11.04 and earlier I had 4.1 on Ubuntu 10.04. After fixing all the points described below all works fine
My problem back then was that my license server didnt start properly when I logged on.
The installation manual has a good description how to manually get the script running if you encounter problems.
You also have to edit and move lm_comsol to /etc/init.d/ but all this is also well described in the installation manual under the heading Debian Linux.
In addition it could be a graphics problem. Try to make a starter with the following command line: /usr/local/comsol42/bin/comsol -3drend sw
The only problem I have now with 4.2 in 11.04 is the the menu on top is gone, in other words i cant see File Edit etc...
Good luck !

The item "passcode" is missing(!) in the menu of license information in installer GUI .
When I turn to the automated installation via setupcaonfig.ini but I get:
ERROR com.comsol.install.FlInstException: Passcode installation is only supported on Windows and Mac. [com.comsol.logger]
Any ideas?

I have only one more question, to run comsol we can only do by command line?

1. in an X-windows-supported terminal (xterm, konsole,gnome-terminal, etc.), you can enter the comsol command as you asked. Make sure comsol is in your path, or specify the entire path on the command line.
2. create an icon to call the command line as a mouse click
3. enter the command mode (alt-F2) and specify the comsol command there
perhaps there are other ways

Nils,
I had the same problem with the disappearing top menu in 10.04. The problem tunred out to be the Unity window manager. If you run the Ubuntu Classic window manger (change the setting in the Login dialog), the top menu is there.
