Electric Field and Equipotential Surface Simulation Problem

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi, I am a new user to COMSOL. Can anyone help me, please? I want to compute and plot the electric field intensity and the equipotential surfaces produced by two parallel plates at their midway and at a point closer to any one of the plates (if it's possible to simulate at points of our own choice). The plates are separated by a distance “d”. The upper one has a potential of +V and the lower -V. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you in anticipation!

Hello Akshay,

This tutorial on modeling a parallel plate capacitor should be fairly similar to what you have in mind, and will help you get going. This model is also closely related and has a more interesting, 3D, geometry.

To learn how to operate the software in a more structured manner, I strongly recommend the Learning Center. Many additional self-training resources are listed in my post this recent thread.

Best regards,

Jeff

Hello,

I tried generating the electric field plot and I did it successfully but how to have equipotential lines contour for the same structure? Thanks

The parallel plate capacitor model that I mentioned above (and which you can also find inside the software under the name capacitor_dc in the Applciaiton Libraries under the File menu) demonstrates how to do that with a contour plot. See also the attached screenshot from that model showing isopotential lines on a cut plane.

Best,

Jeff
