Friction Simulation

I was wondering if anyone could help me with an issue I am having regarding the Friction node in Structural Mechanics. I am trying to model the lateral deflection of a beam in contact with a surface with friction.
I have a geometry of two gold plates, one on top of the other set. The top plate has an edge force applied to it. Enough force is set so the plate can be deflected by 100nm in the y direction (based on the orientation of the geometry) without the effects of friction. When my friction node values are set to default, with a mu value equal to 0, my simulation gives me that ~100nm deflection, as expected.
The problem I am having is that once the static friction coefficient value is set to anything that is not 0. Changing mu to be nonzero causes the deflection to reduce by a factor of 100x, no matter how small I make mu (for example 1e-10).
Another issue occurs when I set the cohesion sliding resistance to anything other than 0.
Thank you!
