Load on Pressure sensor

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi,
I am modelling a piezo-resistive pressure sensor. In my model pressure is to be applied ONLY to the top surface of the structure. I am not sure if i have to apply the load as "Pressure" or as "Force per unit area" , under solid mechanics. I don't understand the difference between the two and need some clarification regarding which of the two options should be used.
Thanking you in advance,
Vijay

Hi

Force per unit area can e defined in the different directions, as a vector, a pressure is always normal to the surface and is a scalar. But indeed both are defined as "pressures N/m^2. You have also total force, a scalar distributed EVENLY over the full boundary

Good luck
