Form unions in different components

A slider is put on a rigid line (ground) under gravity. The slider has different elastic properties on the left and right, so I drew 2 squares and assigned different elastic properties to them. These two squares form a union.

But when I create a union as in the attached figure, the line seems to be affected too, for in contact pair settings the line is broken.

Is creating component 2 and putting the line under geometry 2 the only option to resolve this? Then one needs solid mechanics module twice.
