Adding a DC bias to an AC signal - Electrostatics

Hello,

For the sake of my question, lets say I am attempting to calculate an electric field in a very simple geometry (3 plates of equal spacing. All I am given is that the plates are 3kV apart (+3 on the top, 0 in the middle, -3 on the bottom), and they are riding on a 10kV RMS AC signal.

I have attempted using a boundary electrical potential condition with a harmonic perturbation, but I have little confidence in the correctness of my approach.

For clarity: I am asking the best way to apply 10kV RMS AC signal +/- 3kV DC offset to a geometry.

I am using version 6.1, and the AC/DC module.

David,

the most general way is to run a time dependent study. Make sure you run a stationary step with the BCs for t = 0 before the time dependent step.

Cheers Edgar

Is your problem linear? If so, it would seem to me that you might be able to add the extra potential in post-processing.
