Linux sleeping processes

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi,

Am running 4.3a in batch on a linux cluster. For example, two physical nodes, each with 12 cores, comsol-supplied Intel MPI:

comsol -nn 2 -np 12 -f hostfile.$JOB_ID batch -inputfile test.mph -outputfile test.out.mph -batchlog batch.log

where the hostfile contains the hostname of the two physical nodes.

Am curious as to why we see so many sleeping processes on each node. Is this a sign that I've got the command line option wrong? I see 12 active processes as expected (turn on threads in 'top') but also approx 40 sleeping processes. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance
George
