Potential Distribution Along a String Insulator

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hello,

I am trying to simulate the 2D potential and electric field distribution along a glass string insulator.

There are 20 cap and pin glass insulators in a string and I have set the material of the cap and pin as steel. 230 kV (line to ground) is set to the bottom of the pin of the last insulator. The effects of the grounded tower and line conductor are ignored for this simulation.

Potential.jpg is the resulting potential contour plot I get, but I am expecting the contour to look like what is in Potential 2.jpg.

In my simulation, why is the potential only distributed along the first insulator in the string?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Titus
