Modeling ETD ferrite core

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

I am trying to model an ETD ferrite core (core losses) and i have been following the tutorial for an E core. (www.comsol.se/model/download/157243/models.acdc.ecore_transformer.pdf)

However i experience a problem with the solver. Error message:

Nonlinear solver did not converge.
In segregated group 2:
Time : 0
Internal error in solver.
Last time step is not converged.

The file is attached. Any idea how to fix this?
Thank's very much in advance.

PS: I know i could make an approximation and simulate the core in 2d, but i want to compare with a more complex transformer, that needs 3d simulation

Dear Keijo,

I guess you need to add "Coil Current Calculation" steps (one step for each coil) to your solver sequence, before the "Time Dependent" step. "Coil Current Calculation" is required for Numeric coils. Also the Time Dependent solver parameters should me modified.
Everything is mentioned in the pdf you refer to. See the modified model, seems that it converges.

Best Regards,
Dima.

Thx Dima,

for some reason the "Coil Current Calculation" was shown grayed out. Can't reproduce it, though. I worked it through again and it works fine.

best regards

Keijo
