Electrochromic Device
Application ID: 68951
Electrochromic devices (ECDs) may be employed in ”smart” windows, for instance in buildings or motor cycle visors, where the transparency of the device can be controlled by applying a voltage.
ECDs make use of the fact that the absorbance of visual light for a chemical species in a solution may depend on the oxidation state.
By the use of electrodes to control the oxidation state, the transparency of the whole cell can be controlled by changing the potential.
This model simulates the dynamical change of the transparency of an en electrochemical cell when subject to a potential step, followed by relaxation either at open circuit or by short circuiting the cell.
This model example illustrates applications of this type that would nominally be built using the following products:
however, additional products may be required to completely define and model it. Furthermore, this example may also be defined and modeled using components from the following product combinations:
The combination of COMSOL® products required to model your application depends on several factors and may include boundary conditions, material properties, physics interfaces, and part libraries. Particular functionality may be common to several products. To determine the right combination of products for your modeling needs, review the Tabella delle Funzionalità and make use of a free evaluation license. The COMSOL Sales and Support teams are available for answering any questions you may have regarding this.
