Graphene Paves the Way for Next-Generation Plasmonics
Alexander V. Kildishev, Birck Nanotechnology Center, Purdue University, USAAlexander V. Kildishev, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, is leading computational nanophotonics efforts at Birck Nanotechnology Center, Purdue University, and combining graphene with plasmonics to bring the material closer to practical optoelectronics applications. Kildishev and his team use simulation tools to design and optimize devices made from graphene. With simulation and experimentation, they can show tunable graphene-assisted damping of plasmon resonances in nanoantenna arrays, which are important for designing tunable photonic devices in the midinfrared range. COMSOL Multiphysics® is a vital tool for designing tunable elements for the next generation of plasmonic and hybrid nanophotonic on-chip devices.
