Innovative Motor Designs for Electric Cars Come to Life
Omar Laldin, Faraday Future, USAIf electric vehicles are to ultimately transcend from niche to mainstream, their motor designs must continually progress. Modern improvements in electric vehicle motors, known as power magnetic devices (PMDs), come in the form of simultaneous increases in power capability and manufacturability and decreases in size and cost. Faraday Future, a company that develops intelligent electric vehicles, is working to achieve these kinds of improvements in their motors while maintaining the motors' modularity. By studying the electromagnetics coupled with the thermal behavior and genetic algorithms, Faraday Future has increased motor power density and prevented destructive motor events.
