when real part of refractive index is lower than imaginary part

However, why field profile looks wrong for TM mode (field intensity is high in whole computation area including PML region) when real part of refractive index lower than imaginary? TE mode looks alright.
Please receive attached file of filed profile for two modes.
I would be grateful if anyone can help me.
