Job Description

Uses modeling and simulation techniques to drive faster and more robust business decisions. Leads, and conducts research, experiments and data gathering along with developing findings and recommendations involving physical, chemical or food product sciences. Provides data and information to enable business results in partnership with other within Analytical and Applied Science; as well as colleagues within Product Development, Packaging Development, Process Development, Supply Chain and Quality.

Position Responsibilities • Develop empirical, first principles models, and simulation for product, process and package interaction understanding for internal customers to use as development tools for improving product and processes. • Deploy modeling based approaches in accelerating R&D of food, package and process development • Leads and completes both long- and short-term projects that require understanding of physical or chemical transformations to solve technical challenges to maximize/improve product/process/package effectiveness and quality. • Exercises technical and professional judgment on findings/opportunities and how best to proceed. • Routinely works and interacts directly with cross-functional coworkers on issues, opportunities and chartered projects. Collaborates with others to set technical success criteria within areas of responsibility • Valued as an internal resource across all functions and R&D groups in the areas of modeling, simulation and unit operations • Properly uses lab equipment and associated software packages to effectively complete comprehensive analysis. Teaches/trains junior-level staff on such resources. • Compiles findings and insights into written proposals linked to business impact(s) • Communicates findings, insights and recommendations to target audience (Director and above). Effectively influences and interacts with others to accomplish research goals. • Researches externally to ensure current understanding of latest scientific discoveries and to identify potential avenues for generating new ideas. Shares learning with others. • Develops and leverages a plentiful network of external resources in accomplishing set objectives • Leads and directs junior-level engineers/scientists on a regular basis.

Position Qualifications

• Masters or PhD in Mechanical, Chemical, Food or related Engineering discipline. • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in modeling of structural mechanics, fluid dynamics and heat transfer applications. • Demonstrated competence in the use of Multiphysics modeling techniques (e.g., COMSOL, Star CCM+, FLUENT, OPENFOAM etc.) • Leadership and/or supervisory experience required. • Experience with rheological, thermal analytical, textural, chemical and other physical measurement techniques and equipment preferred. • Demonstrated ability to perform advanced scientific problem solving and effectively communicate results. • Advanced technical/scientific report writing skills. • Strong written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills. • Understanding of food product development, processes, and food safety.
