Laminar flow and Joule Heating

I have a model where I'm trying to find the amount of heat produced by two electrodes in a microfluidic channel. When I create the model without laminar flow everything looks fine. The electrical current is flowing and increasing or decreasing the potential increases or decreases the temperature.
As soon as I add laminar flow, all of the velocity profiles look fine, but there is barely any heat generated. After a little searching I noticed the electrical conductivity of the fluid in the channel is no longer active in the material browser. Does this mean that while using the laminar flow model I cannot have electrical current through any of my fluids? Is there any way around this?
Thanks
