Spiral Coil - Electromagnet

Hi all,

Does anybody know how to get a spiral into the comsol geometry? - I saw a model in the library (RF Coil) that had one, but i can't open it becasue I dont have the RF module.

I want to model a basic electromagnet made from a coil of wire around a cylindrical iron core, do a basic comsol study of the effect of varying current and coil density on the E and B fields.

If you want to draw the model within the COMSOL gui, in 3D space you can right click the geometry and select other primitive objects, pick helix, and set your parameters. Drawing a cylinder is fairly straightforward. You will have to adjust parameters to get what you want.

If you want to import from another CAD pkg, you need to follow the criteria for importable s/w format for COMSOL.

If you specifically want the coil that goes with the library example, you can just download the .mphbin file and use that. Be forewarned that when you import a .mphbin file, it is a unitless dwg file. You have to scale it to whatever system of units you are using.

Thankyou - I was actually working on a machine with 4.0a installed which has the helix feature removed. My regular machine runs 4.2 so I've found the object now.

I tried with this method , then when i define the multi turn coil domain or single turn coil domain for applying current i am not able to do this , can you pls suggest how to do
