Möbius strip geometry with finite thickness

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi,

I'm trying to make a model of a möbius strip in COMSOL. Getting a surface with the möbius geometry embedded in 3D is easy enough through the parametric surface option, but so far I haven't been able to give it a finite thickness.
(Extruding doesn't seem to work for this: the extrusion is in the same direction everywhere, so only normal to the surface in one place but parallel 180 degrees further.)

I've also tried to get a twist in a torus geometry and sweeping a workplane ellipse or rectangle along a curve, but I've not managed to get anything close to a möbius strip with either of those methods.

For reference I've been using the following expressions for the parametric surface:
x = (1+(v/2)*cos(u/2))*cos(u)
y = (1+(v/2)*cos(u/2))*sin(u)
z = (v/2)*sin(u/2)
for u = [0,2*pi] and v = [-0.5,0.5]

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,
Daan
