Derived Values at the Nodes

Is it possible to derive a value at each node of my mesh without having to create points for my geometry? Ultimately I'm trying to derive a nodal value, call it X, at every node of my mesh using a Matlab function via LiveLink and doing a parameter sweep to see when X passes a certain threshold. That brings me to another question, can I also perform a while-loop type of operation for my parameter sweep? That is, can I say something like "While X<1, increase parameter Y by 0.1?" This would be very convenient. Thanks
