How do we model a flexible string using 3D solid physics?

Could anybody please give me a hint on how modelling a flexible string is different from modeling a stiff rod ( of same dimesions) in COMSOL using 3D solid physics? How are the differences incorporated during lets say structural loading unloading on each?
