How to define an average probe in a surface that does not coincide with a domain but it is a part of it?

Hello everyone. In a 2D analysis I need to calculate the average value of a quantity in a surface that does not coincide with a domain but is a part of it. Is it possible to do it in a simple way? In other words, I need to define, as an explicit selection for instance, a part of a domain (2D but also 3D) for subsequent processing of the calculated solution. Thanks
