Hello,

Do I need the Geomechanics module for modeling the stress, strain, von Mises stress in rock salt? What type of material behavior I need to include in this model? The physics of the case is as follows: An underground cavern is developed in the rock salt deposit and it is used for natural gas storage under variable pressure. Strain and stress distribution is used to evaluate the cavern stability and safety. Rock salt is a creeping medium.

Thank you so much, Malgorzata

To find built-in models for creep, you need either the Geomechanics Module or the Nonlinear Structural Materials Module.

Alternatively, you can formulate the time-dependent creep equations yourself, using one of the mathematics interfaces (probably Domain ODEs and DAEs), and then inject the creep strains into Solid Mechanics as an External Strain. In this case the Structural Mechanics Module will suffice. This, of course, requires more work and a higher level of knowledge about the usage of the software.
