Sellmeier dispersion model in Electromagnetic waves, transient interface

Is it possible to use the Sellmeier dispersion model to specfiy the refractive index of materials in the electromagnetic waves, transient interface?

I am trying to model the propagation of an ultrashort pulse (femtoseconds) through a Schott glass whose refractive index is defined by a set of Sellmeier coefficents.

Is there a way to achieve this? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi,

in the frequency domain you can use a frequency (or wavelength) dependent refractive index. So you could run a frequency sweep over the bandwidth of the pulse with suitable window function and do an iFFT into the time domain. This should be quite straightforward, but only works if the material is linear.

An external material directly in the time domain may be another option, but this will probably be a hairy thing.

Just saw that Sellmeier is even directly available in frequency domain.

Cheers Edgar
