Eddy current Braking

Hi there,

I am a senior mechanical engineering student working on a project encapsulating an eddy current braking system for cars. I wanted to simulate a rotating aluminum disk at 1000 rpm and an electromagnet that will generate a magnetic field perpendicular to rotation of the disk thus creating an eddy current braking torque. I have created a global ODE to calculate the torque by eddy current. I have tried using the mef (magnetic and electric fields) physics to simulate the process; however, I keep getting a non-converging error message. If you are able to assist, please feel free to view the attached COMSOL file.

Hi Mohammed,

Your meshing is too course for a software to converge the solution. Please make sure to resolve all the eddy currents that is induced on the disk. The meshing is very important for this type of simulation especially when you have the "Lorentz Term".

Hi Mark,

I saw this blog and followed the instructions. The problem is they are using a permanent magent and the project we are working on is an electromagnet.

I was just trying to make the mesh finer but still the results are the same. Can you also clarify what you mean by this statement?
