Material Properties - Solid vs. Non-Solid Domain Type

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

In the Material Settings tab, under Material Properties, there is an option to select "Solid" or "Non-solid" for the material type. What is that "domain type" referring to, the phase of the material (e.g., solid, liquid, gas - ice, water, steam) or the object type from the geometry (i.e. solid, curve) or something else entirely?

Thank-you for your help.
