Array of blocks in a helical fashion

I have a sample rectangular block which should be repeated along a helix. I have created a spline curve for the helix. Sweeping a face of the block along the curve creates a helix with rectangular cross section. Is there a way I can create an array of discrete blocks (with a gap between the blocks) placed in a helical fashion. Thanks.
