Periodic and symmetry boundary conditions in Structural mechanics module

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi all,

I am new to Comsol and am trying to model a simple 2D composite unit cell (concentric circle in a square) with periodic boundary conditions. As a guide I am using a paper by Drago et al. (dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.compscitech.2006.02.031). In this paper, the symmetry of the unit cell is exploited: 1/4 of the unit cell is modeled and symmetry conditions are imposed. Additionally, periodic boundary conditions are applied.

I am not sure how to replicate this procedure since only one of the coupled edges for periodic boundary conditions is created in the model - the other is accounted for using the symmetry condition.

Thank you for your help!
Sincerely,
Amanda Fujii
