Calculation of residual thermal stress

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

I have constructed a model for the heating of a block of material with a moving electron beam. The model uses the Heat Transfer module to calculate the time-dependent temperature profile within the material.

I would like to extend the model to include the calculation of residual thermal stresses. I plan to do this with the Thermal Stress module within Structural Mechanics. Is there any way to take use the temperature gradient calculated at any point in time with the Heat Transfer model to calculate the thermal stresses inside the material? I have not been able to figure this out on my own and I cannot find any examples of a time-dependent Thermal Stress model. I am very new to COMSOL and any help would be appreciated.

My model is attached. Study 1 uses the Heat Transfer module to calculate the temperature profile. Study 2 is where I attempted to calculate thermal stress, but it does not currently work.
