I'm working on an inlet plenum to a device which has a lot of tubes. This plenum takes gas and turns it upwards into the tubes. The distribution doesn't have to be "perfect," but it does have to be relatively good (within 20% rms, ultimately) so the first approximation is to try to distribute the gas using screens.
Screens seem to work well when they have relatively low solidity. But when the solidity is higher, say 30-50%, then it's very hard to get them to converge. And I don't know how.
I have tried using smaller pieces of materials (typically angle iron with the points aimed downstream), but then the difficulty becomes meshing. Although I can get the mesher to work with smaller pieces of materials, when it's time to solve, multigrid fails to establish the coarser meshes required.
Any help on this model would be greatly appreciated.
