COMSOL Validation for External Flow

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hello all,

Does anyone have any good references or published results for validation of COMSOL in an open/external flow model? I've worked through quite a few of the tutorials and some simple flow models of my own.

Many of the tutorials provide *very* little detail or explanation of why the obtained solution is an accurate prediction. Additionally, quite a few of the models I have run through (pipe flow, flow over an immersed body, etc.) do not satisfy conservation of mass or conservation of energy. I've been trying to stick to the default solvers and meshes.

Is there a good resource out there that shows COMSOL results for external flow being validated and compared to analytical or experimental results?

Thanks in advance!
~ C.C.

Hello Connor,

COMSOL recently added to our website this page which highlights well over a hundred verification and validation models and provides access to their documentation. Models can be filtered by discipline or by module, as well as searched through via a free word search. Filtering for the CFD Module, you will find these models.

This blog post describes how to verify mass and energy conservation in a model.

Best regards,

Jeff
