Residual stresses analyses of thermal spray process by COMSOL (birth and death unit)

Hi,

I'm trying to simulate a thermal spray coating process, with COMSOL Multyphycis v4.3b.

My model is a multiple-layerAl2O3 gradient coating on AL substrate. I use a 2D geometry.

2 steps are needed to simulate the deposition of each layer :
- deposition of the coating layer
- cooling-down

The coating is composed of 10 layers.

In the previous study, Mr.Alexis Grenier has used 10 solver to solve each layers, and he uses the final temperature of layer N as initial temperature of layer N + 1 .it works, but it is very complicated for the whole process, I would like to know if there are easier ways to solve this problem? such as birth and death unit?

Thanks for your help!
