Geometric multigrid preconditioner to solve a 3D periodic Eigenvalue problem

I need to solve a large (100000 elements) 3D periodic eigenvalue problem in RF module by using iterative solvers.
Direct solvers (UMFPACK, PARDISO, SPOOLES) gave me the correct solutions for the same structure with less number of elements (below 5000 elements). So now I want to refine the mesh for several times and obtain electric field plots with higher resolution.
As mentioned in RF user's guide pp. 84, I have set GMRES, Geometric multigrid and Vanka for the linear system solver, the preconditoner, and the pre/post smoother, respectively, however I'm not doing well at all.
Could you give me advices for this problem please?
