Export / plot refined mesh solution data ("Evaluation not supported across different meshes" error)

I'm working with a time dependent solver with adaptive mesh refinement.
When I try to export the data from several different times to the same file COMSOL gives the error message "Evaluation not supported across different meshes." The same happens when I try to plot two sets of data on the same graph.
For exporting I can get around the problem by exporting every individual time step to its own file. A similar thing can be done with the plots. But this is time-consuming and annoying. I understand the mesh is changing across different times -- that's the point.
How can I get around this? What's an easy way of exporting data from the different meshes?
I would like to take my data to matlab to make some plots.
