Damping Pad with a Constrained Layer
Application ID: 88071
This model presents a method to analyze acoustic damping pads. These pads use a constrained layer of viscoelastic material to dissipate energy and thus reduce the energy radiated as noise. Damping pads are used in many different industries to reduce the noise generated by vibrating panels and offer a lightweight method to reduce noise in some applications.
The model analyses the difference between a untreated panel and one with an acoustic treatment. The model also shows results using the traditional approach of modeling the damping pads, as an additional mass and damping. It is seen that this traditional approach leads to inaccurate results when compared to a full multiphysics model.
This model example illustrates applications of this type that would nominally be built using the following products:
however, additional products may be required to completely define and model it. Furthermore, this example may also be defined and modeled using components from the following product combinations:
The combination of COMSOL® products required to model your application depends on several factors and may include boundary conditions, material properties, physics interfaces, and part libraries. Particular functionality may be common to several products. To determine the right combination of products for your modeling needs, review the Tabella delle Funzionalità and make use of a free evaluation license.
