Head and Torso HRTF Computation
Application ID: 75011
This tutorial model shows how to import a 3D scanned geometry of a human head and torso and compute the head related transfer function (HRTF). The scan is imported as a .stl file and converted into a COMSOL geometry. The HRTF is computed using the reciprocity principle, locating the source at the ear canal entrance, and the acoustics are simulated using the Pressure Acoustics, Boundary Element interface. The simulated results are compared to measured data form the actual subject and show good agreement.
The scanned geometry and measured data is with courtesy of the Teaching and Research Area of Medical Acoustics, Institute of Technical Acoustics, RWTH Aachen University, Germany.
This model example illustrates applications of this type that would nominally be built using the following products:
however, additional products may be required to completely define and model it. Furthermore, this example may also be defined and modeled using components from the following product combinations:
The combination of COMSOL® products required to model your application depends on several factors and may include boundary conditions, material properties, physics interfaces, and part libraries. Particular functionality may be common to several products. To determine the right combination of products for your modeling needs, review the Tabella delle Funzionalità and make use of a free evaluation license. The COMSOL Sales and Support teams are available for answering any questions you may have regarding this.
