Sound Transmission Loss Through a Window
Application ID: 85201
This model presents a practical and efficient method to compute the sound transmission loss (STL) through a building component. Specifically, this example treats the case of a double-glazed window.
The method used here is valid for structural components that have a small influence on the acoustic field on the source side (STL larger than 10 dB). The method is based on assuming an ideal diffuse field on the source side and an ideal anechoic termination on the receiver side of the window.
From the approach used in this model, you can extract an ideal, experiment-independent STL. A variation on the random seed used to generate the diffuse field is used to obtain the sensitivity of the computed STL to changes in the diffuse field.
This model example illustrates applications of this type that would nominally be built using the following products:
however, additional products may be required to completely define and model it. Furthermore, this example may also be defined and modeled using components from the following product combinations:
The combination of COMSOL® products required to model your application depends on several factors and may include boundary conditions, material properties, physics interfaces, and part libraries. Particular functionality may be common to several products.
