Intro to the CMS Modeling Approach with COMSOL®

Duration: 18:56

Watch this archived webinar to get an 18-minute introduction to the component mode synthesis (CMS) feature, available in the Structural Mechanics Module and Multibody Dynamics Module as of COMSOL Multiphysics® version 6.0.

First, we discuss reduced-order models (ROMs), which are online reduced-order representations of full models. Then we give an overview of the CMS feature, such as how it can be used to create ROMs for linear parts of a model. We also go over how CMS, which is based on the Craig–Bampton method, employs a combination of static constraint modes and eigenmodes. Finally, we showcase how to use the CMS modeling approach, with a simple, solid cantilever beam model as an example.
