Depending on the frequency, RF radiation can travel through solid insulating structures, typical atmospheric conditions, clouds, and rain with only minimal losses allowing for its use over long ranges and in varied weather conditions. The aerospace and defense industries have expanded and progressed rapidly as a result of using radar systems for detection and classification tasks to determine if an object or target is present, where it is located, and if it is moving or stationary. The prevalent use of radar in the defense industry has naturally created the need for detection avoidance methods in order to maintain a competitive edge.

This article discusses the variety of antennas that can be found on a spacecraft and the different simulation techniques that are best suited for each type of antenna such as helical antenna, horn antenna, dish reflector antenna, and phased array antenna.

The residual stresses developed in a stiffened panel manufactured using Electron Beam Freeform Fabrication (EBF3) process were studied. EBF3 process is a layer additive process that can be used to build near-net shaped parts directly using computer controlled techniques, which can be used for aerospace structures.
A COMSOL model was created to simulate the residual stresses using a thermo-mechanical analysis, with the Goldak’s semi ellipsoidal moving heat source.

Stealth airplanes and ships avoid radar detection by optimizing the shape of surfaces to reflect away from the radar source or absorb its energy. Yet, if a ship or aircraft’s antenna for communication purposes is to operate properly, it cannot be completely covered up. This makes it one of the remaining components with a large radar cross section and can essentially destroy the overall system’s invisibility to radar.

In order to gather more detailed information on the rising sea level, glacier melting and tectonic plate movements to improve our understanding of global and climate change, the Next Generation Gravity Mission (NGGM) is being prepared by the European Space Agency (ESA) in cooperation with the National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA). These effects can be observed by long-term monitoring of the temporal fluctuations of the Earth’s gravity field. Therefore, a ranging instrument measures the variation of the distance between two satellites in the orbit, one pair of observation satellites in a near-polar orbit and a second pair in an inclined circular orbit.

Pressure Sensors are widely used in the automotive industry. Their main use is the dynamic monitoring of pressure inside combustion engines. To achieve a good signal accuracy, the design of pressure sensors can be improved with FEM calculations of stress and strains on the measuring cell depending on their geometry and material properties.
The geometry is adapted according to a special nominal pressure and a limit rule of the stresses.

This work reports the application of topology optimization for the design of two types of metallic antennas that are very different from each other: a leaky-wave antenna (LWA) radiating at broadside, and an epidermal patch antenna, optimized to favor radiation coupling into the human body.
Planar leaky-wave antennas are traveling-wave antennas in which the wave “leaks” energy into space while propagating along the structure [“Substrate Integrated Waveguide Leaky Wave Antenna”, Application ID: 16021]. A leaky wave has a complex wavenumber and radiates away from the surface at an angle which depends on the phase constant; it can be generated from a surface wave by modulating the surface impedance of the antenna [A.

Radiofrequency discharges in Hydrogen have a range of applications. In particular, they are used as high-intensity sources of atoms for fundamental and material processing applications.
In this study, we investigate a small volume, low pressure RF discharge used to produce Hydrogen atoms.
A cylindrical quartz vessel is filled with Hydrogen at pressure in the range [10:20] Pa.
